Back out west...

A_hitting_orange

Greetings from Phoenix where I'm getting ready for tomorrow's first round of the Safeway International.  We arrived late last night after the Tavistock Cup. I am playing well and have some great memories at this event, so I'm looking forward to adding to those this week!

Today was really special because I spent the morning practicing with with Pontus Widegren and Louise Larsson, two of the top junior golfers in Sweden.  They were the 2008 recipients of the Annika Sorenstam Golf Scholarship, which I started five years ago to inspire young golfers to improve their games, prepare for the future, and develop themselves as human beings. Each year the recipients come to this event, practice with me and get to experience an LPGA event up close. This year, they even got to play in the pro-am, which was exciting!

In addition to that, recipients are given the opportunity to visit a few colleges in the United States where they can see what it takes to be an athlete on a college golf team. Pontus and Louise both looked at Arizona and ASU. Of course, I’m pulling for the Wildcats!  They have a lot of talent and we were able to capture them on video, so look for that in the future. Then it was time for the pro-am.  They will watch some golf tomorrow and then head back to Sweden. Hopefully, they will be inspired to keep up the good work.

Well I’m off to bed. I’ll check back in throughout the week.

Typical day

Hi everybody,

I would like to share one of my typical days with you.

The alarm wakes me up at 6:30 am. I like to sleep, so it’s always the clock that gets me up. I grab a quick breakfast and head to the gym to meet Kai (my fitness coach for 8 years) at 7:30. My work outs consist mostly of weights, I focus on one/two muscles groups each time. To round out the gym session, I finish with some high intensity cardio intervals.

I am back at my house around 9:00 am and will shower up and get ready for the day. I usually visit the office to answer and return some e-mails or calls.

Most of my days have a scheduled interview, sponsor outing, or a visit to my Academy. I try to schedule these in the mornings so that I will have the afternoon to myself to practice . My caddie, Terry joins me for many of these sessions. He likes to see my progress and helps me prepare for the next tournament. It’s Team work.

Around 5:00 pm I head back to the house. By then, it is time to answer some e-mails and check in with the ANNIKA Team. I am lucky to have a very good staff that is independent and hard working.

Mike and I get together around 6:30 each evening. We hang out in the kitchen and he shares with me the business activities of the day as I prepare dinner.  I love to cook, so this is a fun time for me. I relax and I cherish our time at home.

The day flies and after a little TV and internet it’s time to go to bed. After a long days of work, I can’t wait to put my head on the pillow. As I said – I love to sleep so I can charge my batteries for another great day.

ANNIKA Academy to be featured on the Golf Channel

Dsc03175_2Hello everyone.  This is Christian and it is another beautiful day out here at the ANNIKA Academy.  Like you, Annika's team is very happy to see that Annika has started the season off really well and we look forward to an exciting LPGA season.  With the amount of good talent playing, this season should be a lot of fun to watch.

I wanted to mention, in January we spent time filming a special for the Golf Channel.  "What's in the Bag" will feature the ANNIKA Academy and the experience a guest will have when they attend the Academy.  Please do check it out at 7:30 PM Eastern Time next Monday (3/17).  After you watch the show please use this post to ask any questions that you may have about the Academy and let us know your thoughts.

I hope everyone is warming up out there and looking forward to watching Annika play in Phoenix!
